AccessGov capitalizes on the knowledge exchange during the Jakarta Smart City visit to develop tech-related solutions to address challenges related to local government urbanization efforts.

SAN PEDRO, PHILIPPINES, October 18-19, 2023 — The AccessGov team took part in a knowledge exchange with Jakarta Smart City at the Gedung DPRD DKI Jakarta or Gedung DPRD Provinsi DKI Jakarta. It is located at JI. Kebon Sirih No. 17, RT.2/RW.5, Gambir, Kota Jakarta Pusat. Daerah, Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 10110, Indonesia.

Jakarta is one of the key capital cities in Southeast Asia. As a major urban hub and metropolitan region, the local government has to deal with the challenges that arise from also being a major urban center. With this, Jakarta hopes to leverage technology to dissipate and mitigate pains that come from rapid urbanization and population congestion.

The proponents of Jakarta Smart City aims to reap the benefits of digital solutions for the improvement of government services and to increase the reach and impact of its services. The Jakarta Smart City is the application of an innovative smart city concept that leverages the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to know, understand, and control various resources of the local government. The Jakarta Smart City as a concept aims to be the model of what a Smart City in Indonesia would become in the next few years.

AccessGov participating in this knowledge exchange has learned certain innovative ideas arising from specific conditions that also mirrors the experience of the Philippines and other developing countries in the region.

The exploratory conversations AccessGov stimulated a fruitful discussion of what a digital ASEAN could look like in the years to come. These included identifying problems in urban areas in which the citizens and local government may have in the future; to continuously and effectively provide for the growing needs of citizens; and implementing actions at an accelerated pace in the realm of public policy, service delivery, and governance.

AccessGov relishes the opportunity to participate in constructive discussions for building a better digital future for urban and rural local governments in the developing regions of the world. As a firm believer that it takes a whole-of-country approach to effectively strategize the transition of the current state of local government services, local governments more than ever have a central role of contributing and determining the opportunities and challenges for digitally transforming their processes and organizations to realize the benefits of the Smart City approach.
